Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT)
Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is a tapping technique based on the 5,000-year-old healing tradition of acupressure. EFT focuses on healing the body’s complex series of energy circuits, or meridians, which run throughout the body.
When your energy system is blocked, it affects your body in many different ways. Some believe that the cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body’s energy system.
During an EFT session, the practitioner taps on acupressure sites while you focus on a negative emotion, allowing you to release that emotion. As you release a negative emotion, your understanding of that emotion will also shift. For example, releasing guilt may lead to self forgiveness, anger may transform into objectivity, and grief may transition into a more peaceful perspective. EFT is effectively used for a wide variety of distressing experiences such as stress, anger, sadness, cravings, fears, muscle tension, muscle cramps, and physical pain.
Negative emotions and stress contribute to physical distress. Because EFT focuses on the connection between mind and body, EFT may also provide relief from physical discomfort. Thus, when using EFT for emotional challenges, it is common for physical challenges to cease. For example, breathing problems go away, headaches vanish, joint pains subside, and even Multiple Sclerosis symptoms improve.
